The Foxtail Fern (Asparagus Densiflorus) is a striking ornamental plant known for its lush, arching plumes of needle-like foliage. Despite its name, it is not a true fern but a member of the asparagus family. Its dense, feathery fronds resemble fox tails, creating a soft, textural display that enhances any indoor or outdoor space. This hardy, low-maintenance plant thrives in a variety of environments and brings year-round greenery to gardens, patios, or interiors. Native to South Africa, the Foxtail Fern is well-adapted to warm climates and is highly tolerant of dry conditions once established. Its upright, fountain-like growth habit makes it an excellent choice for container planting, garden borders, or as an accent piece in landscapes. The vibrant green foliage maintains its lush appearance throughout the year, providing an elegant and structured look without excessive upkeep. This versatile plant is a favorite for both beginner and experienced gardeners due to its adaptability and resilience. Whether displayed as a striking potted specimen or used in mass plantings for a dramatic effect, the Foxtail Fern adds a unique and sophisticated touch to any setting. With minimal care requirements, it offers effortless beauty and long-lasting appeal.
  • Light Requirements: The Foxtail Fern thrives in bright, indirect light but is highly adaptable to different conditions. It performs best in partial sun to dappled shade when grown outdoors. If kept indoors, place it near a bright window with filtered sunlight for optimal growth. While it can tolerate some direct sun, prolonged exposure may cause leaf tips to brown.
  • Watering Needs: This plant prefers moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. It is drought-tolerant once established but benefits from consistent moisture during its growing season. Avoid overwatering, as excessive moisture can lead to root issues. In drier climates, occasional misting can help maintain its lush appearance.
  • Soil Preferences: Well-draining soil is essential for a healthy Foxtail Fern. A sandy or loamy mix with good aeration allows proper root development. It adapts well to standard potting mixes when grown in containers. Good drainage is crucial, so ensure pots have adequate holes to prevent excess water retention.
  • Temperature & Climate Tolerance: The Foxtail Fern flourishes in warm temperatures and is best suited for USDA hardiness zones 9-11. It can withstand brief dips in temperature but should be protected from prolonged frost. In cooler regions, it is commonly grown as a houseplant or moved indoors during colder months. It enjoys humidity but is resilient to occasional dry conditions.
  • Physical Characteristics: This evergreen perennial features dense, cylindrical fronds covered in soft, needle-like leaves. The foliage grows in an upright, arching habit, reaching up to 2-3 feet tall and wide. Its rich green color remains vibrant throughout the year, making it a long-lasting addition to any plant collection. During the growing season, mature plants may produce small white flowers followed by red ornamental berries, adding seasonal interest.

Inkjets have come a long way
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
Just a lot to like about this printer and nothing I don't like. Very capable for the price. I do mostly black and white printing, rarely print photos. (This will supposedly do a credible job of photo printing too but I haven't tried it). If you want professional caliber photo printing, you probably want the Epson 8550 which is similar to this, a bit more expensive, but does 6 color printing. If you are doing more like every day business printing the 15000 might be a better choice because it's built more for speed. The tank system means I can just replace the black because I use it a lot. The black ink tank is double size of the others and based on my experience so far, I think I'll easily get over a thousand pages on the standard-vivid setting which is very strong black but still relatively high speed printing. Given that the black ink bottles are under $30 I think the cost per page will be comparable to laser. The booklet/pamphlet printing can be complicated to work out with layers of PDF software and the Epson printer driver. But once you work it through, it's super capable. I've printed a lot of 12 x 18 double-sided for booklets and the paper handling has been flawless. (It can duplex automatically for 8 1/2 x 11 but for other sizes you have to manually duplex, which you can do by printing back/front or even/odd.) It's not as fast as a laser printer but it's pretty fast -- inkjets have improved so much.
