How to Care for an Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor

Light: Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor plants prefer indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight in the morning and afternoons is okay as the light is less harsh. If your room has a window you will be fine, although a Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor will grow faster the brighter the room is.

Water: They prefer to dry out between waterings. Press your finger about an inch into the soil and if it is damp, do not water it. If it is dry it is time to water. In the summer you will water twice as much as the winter waterings.

Soil: Well-draining potting mix will let a Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor thrive.

Humidity: The average humidity in a house is great

Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor Information

An Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor is a Chinese evergreen plant, which makes it a tropical perennial. There are many variations, or cultivars, of aglaonema plants, and the all make excellent house plants.

A reason they are so popular is their large, narrow, oval leaves, which grow on short stems. If provided the right conditions, they will flower in the spring or summer. Not all Aglaonema plants can flower, so if yours does we are very excited for you.

Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor is one of the most popular Aglaonema house plants because it is easy to care for, even for beginners. There are many variations of Aglaonema's, and the Pictum Tricolor is no exception.

This is a plant that will add personality to your home decor.

Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor Growth

A Chinese evergreen growth rate is slower than some other tropical house plants, which makes it an excellent plant for beginners and experienced plant growers. If you have a busy schedule, this is the plant for you.

Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor Water

Watering an Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor every two weeks is very common. Be sure to let them dry out between waterings. This will allow the roots of the plant to get fresh air before more water is applied.

When it's time for watering, soak your Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor thoroughly for 30 minutes, and let the excess water drain for 5 minutes, place your plant in its pot, and you are good for 2 more weeks.

Some plant growers are concerned about root rot, but if you are letting your plant dry out completely between waterings, you have nothing to worry about. Root rot occurs when the plant is watered too frequently, not how much it is given at one time.

Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor Sunlight

Placing a Aglaonema Pictum Tricolor in medium light, bright and indirect light, is enough to let it thrive. A table, ledge, or desk that is 2 or 3 feet from a window is the perfect amount of light, being sure that leaves are kept out of direct sun.

The more sun your Aglaonema gets, the more water it will need, which you will learn over time. During the winter months your plant will get less sun and need less water. During the summer, more water will be used and your plant will grow much faster.

Sturdy tool for improving coffee distribution
Color: Black
For those who do not know what this tool does: The Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) is a distribution method for espresso making, by which you use the tool to stir the coffee while it sits in the portafilter. You should use a portafilter funnel of the same size to avoid spilling grinds. The stirring action breaks up clumps and evens out the density of coffee within the puck. The result is reduced channeling and more even extractions. Who needs this tool: Those without a conical burr grinder, where the oil and variety of grind sizing may cause clumping, will benefit from this tool. Those with a decent conical burr grinder will find minimal benefit from this tool. I'm using a Breville Pro and do not see a huge improvement myself, for example. Quality: The build quality of this tool is excellent. You can add from one to seven needles, with many folks saying three is the sweet spot for best distribution. I've been using it for over a month and none of the needles have bent. The stand is solid aluminum and well-made, but it doubles as a protector of the needles. I just clean with a quick rinse and a wipe before returning it to its stand. Outcome: I did not realize most of the info above until after purchase. So my puck is solid, the pull is clean, and my coffee tastes great with a Breville Pro. However, this tool has a minimal amount to do with that. It is a worthwhile tool for those with a lower-end grinder, especially non-Burr grinders, and it is aesthetically-pleasing and well-made, which is why I rate it 5 stars overall. It also is of good value compared to more expensive variants.

Top quality tool that improves espresso extraction
Color: Gray
Fantastic and easy to use. Stand sits on top of espresso machine and the WDT tool is always ready, no unscrewing. Upgraded from a screw-shut version and couldn't be happier. Comes with extra needles which I hope to never need. Easy to recommend

Makes a difference but maybe only to caffeine addled coffee snobs
Color: Black
I won't say that everyone urgently needs one of these. This is helped me up my game. Perhaps not absolutely necessary, but it noticeably reduces canalization and improves extraction. And it appears to have improved not only my espresso, but my pour-overs and my Mokapot (especially the Mokapot!). It's a little fiddley to assemble - there's sets of springs and needles - but once you get it all locked down, its very tight. There's a set of spares - I can't imagine needing them. The tool kinda sits in the weighted base, but it appears to stay put in my cabinet.

WDT Tool: The Needle in My Espresso Haystack
Color: Black, Color: Black
I kind of went down a deep dive researching these WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) tools, and I have to say, this one hits the sweet spot! The needle size is just right, and the shape is spot on for what I need. Plus, it’s a nice perk that you can remove and replace the needles. I’ve tried using needles and bobby pins in the past, but they were too thick and just ended up creating their own channels—talk about a brewing disaster! Now, here’s the twist: even though it comes with seven needles installed (and more replacements), I find it a bit overkill. With all those needles, it just traps the grinds in the center, pushing stuff around like it’s playing a game of “don’t let the coffee escape.” So, I stick with just three needles in a triangle formation for optimal distribution. Pro tip: don’t forget to adjust the depth as you use it to ensure you’re getting the best coverage of your coffee grounds! The build quality is actually pretty impressive. It feels like well-constructed metal components that could survive a small espresso war. Plus, it's more affordable than some of those fancy options out there—because who needs a second mortgage for great coffee? It looks quite nice on my counter, and the little stand is a handy extra touch. Overall, if you’re looking to up your espresso game and avoid the chaos of uneven distribution, this WDT tool is worth considering. Just remember: less is sometimes more when it comes to needles!
