Monstera adansonii variegata

Monstera adansonii variegata has the slim perforated leaves of the Swiss cheese vine, with irregular cream, white or pale green markings across the foliage. Some leaves may be softly marbled, while others show stronger pale sections or a greener balance. The pattern belongs to the vine’s growth, so each new leaf can look different.

This plant is still Monstera adansonii in structure: a node-forming climber with aerial roots and flexible stems. The variegated tissue makes the plant more sensitive than the green form, especially when leaves carry large pale sections. New leaves depend on active nodes, warm roots and enough green tissue on the vine.

Monstera adansonii variegata key features

  • Pattern: Cream, white or pale green variegation on naturally perforated leaves.
  • Growth: Climbing or trailing vine with nodes and aerial roots along the stem.
  • Leaf variation: Each leaf can show a different balance of green and pale tissue.
  • Leaf type: Variegated Swiss cheese vine with the narrow adansonii leaf shape and flexible indoor growth.

Variegated Swiss cheese vine growth

Monstera adansonii is native across tropical America and grows in warm, wet forest conditions. Indoors, the vine needs filtered light, an airy potting mix and a root zone that dries without staying saturated. A support guides the stem upward and keeps lengthening vines from tangling around the pot.

The pale parts of a variegated leaf contain less chlorophyll than the green parts. That makes high-variegation growth slower and more prone to browning from sun, dry roots, low humidity or fertiliser salts.

How to care for Monstera adansonii variegata

  • Light: Give bright indirect light. The green tissue needs light for growth, while pale tissue needs protection from harsh direct sun.
  • Watering: Water once roughly half of the pot depth has dried. Avoid keeping the root ball constantly wet.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky aroid mix with bark, coco chips and pumice or perlite for oxygen around the roots.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally 18–27 °C. Cold, wet conditions can trigger yellowing and root decline.
  • Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity helps delicate new leaves unfurl with fewer dry marks.
  • Support: Train the vine loosely onto a textured pole or trellis so aerial roots can attach as the stem grows.
  • Fertilising: Use a weak feed on actively extending stems and rinse the mix if pale tissue starts browning from salts.
  • Cuttings: Propagate from stem sections with a node and viable growth point. Keep some green tissue on cuttings where possible.
  • Repotting: Step up only one pot size once roots net the mix; variegated vines are less likely to sit wet in a container that dries predictably.

Common variegated Monstera adansonii problems

  • Brown pale patches: Check direct sun, dry roots, low humidity and fertiliser build-up. Pale tissue usually marks before green tissue.
  • Soft yellow leaves: Check the lower root ball for slow drying. Heavy, wet substrate is a common trigger.
  • Weak new growth: Review warmth, root condition and green leaf area before feeding more heavily.
  • Long stretched stems: Move the plant closer to bright indirect light and add support if internodes are lengthening.
  • Distorted leaves: Inspect new growth and nodes for thrips or mites, then isolate and treat early.

Pet and child safety

Monstera adansonii variegata is irritating if chewed or swallowed. Its tissues contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can affect the mouth, throat and digestive tract. Keep leaves, stems and propagation pieces away from pets and children.

Botanical name and variegation background

Monstera adansonii Schott is an accepted tropical American species in Araceae. The genus name Monstera refers to unusual leaf forms in the group, while adansonii honours Michel Adanson.

Monstera adansonii variegata produces perforated green-and-cream leaves from node-forming vines with airy roots and enough green leaf area.

Having even the kids grab one on their way out the door if they are missing a meal or need a quick snack or pick me up before sports we currently need to re-order so I don’t have any pictures to post but if you’re thinking about it I would get them .

Probably the best
Flavor Name: Chocolate, Size: 14 Fl Oz (Pack of 12)
I'm not a super meat head muscle workout guy, but I went from being very active about my nutrition and macros and then had an accident which left me disabled so my needs changed. This fits different needs, but is still really really exceptional. If you're a gym rat just looking for *only* plain old bulk protein to take after workouts, or you reeeeeeallly take a lot of it, honestly I'd get a big giant tub of bulk powder from like muscle milk or optimum nutrition. The price is just too good to ignore, & plus you can add another scoop or two to double or triple the protein. You can't really beat it, other than taste. Speaking of taste, whether it's a pre-mix or powders, I've never, ever ever ever tasted a protein shake that tasted as good as this chocolate one. Dozens & dozens of brands over the decades, & the only one that comes close was the OG Muscle Milk recipe in the old tetra packs from like 15-20 years ago, before they were bought by Gatorade or whoever. This has NO right tasting as good as it does, with as little sugar, calories, & fat. PLUS having artificial sweeteners like stevia & sucralose. One reason I despise pre-made shakes, zero calorie & low sugar drinks is because I have a very strong detection of artificial sweeteners, but I can barely tell these are there. On top of that, 42 grams of protein in 14floz? I don't know what magic Fairlife did, but it's incredible. One thing I will say though, is if you're taking a protein drink for pretty much anything other than supplemental protein replacement, this doesn't offer too much else. The "vitamins & minerals" aren't too impressive, and though a high protein drink can make you feel full or satiated, calories & fat are important too. As stereotyped it is, something like Ensure has a really good blend of calories, fat, sugar, and a lot of vitamins. There is a reason it's used all over hospitals & nursing homes. Plus the Ensure "Plus" & "Complete" have 16g & 30g protein each, respectively. They don't taste as good as the Fairlife does, but they're actually not too bad, since they use actual sugar. However, those really are meant for convalescing & true meal replacement, not bulking & training. The only other downside is price really, at $40-45 for a 12 pack, these aren't cheap. However, when compared to a good alternative like optimum gold at about $25 for a 12 pack, you're getting almost double the protein in each drink from 24 to 42, and they're 14oz instead of 11oz, so you're getting 168oz compared to 132oz, which is like getting 3 more drinks worth. It's still a bit costly per bottle, as an Optimum Nutrition/Pure Protein/Premier Protein 11oz pre-made at $25 a 12pk will be a little over $2 each, & the Fairlife 12pk @ $45 is about $3.75 each. Still cheaper than if you went to pick one up at the gym or a gas station or something, a single would probably be $5-7, so there's value there in bulk. If it's worth it to you, that's up to your wallet. Another plus is they are SNAP/EBT eligible, so that's a massive W. If you take loads & loads & loads of protein every single day, and lugging a shaker with powder around isn't a problem, bulk powder is gonna be a LOT cheaper. However, if you only drink one every couple days, and don't want to deal with the blender/shaker hassle, and most importantly want the best tasting shake, this is it. This stuff is awesome, & I'll 1000% be trying the vanilla and strawberry as well. The chocolate is an easy 5 and worth trying.

Yummy taste!
Flavor Name: Chocolate, Size: 14 Fl Oz (Pack of 12), Flavor Name: Chocolate, Size: 14 Fl Oz (Pack of 12)
I’ve been using the Core Power Elite protein shakes and they’ve honestly become a go-to. The taste is super smooth and not chalky at all—more like chocolate milk than a typical protein drink. Each bottle packs 42g of protein, which is perfect after a workout or when I need something quick and filling. I also love that it’s lactose-free and easy on my stomach. Great for busy days, gym recovery, or hitting protein goals without overthinking it. Definitely keeping these stocked

The Best Protein Drink I've Ever Had!
Flavor Name: Chocolate, Size: 14 Fl Oz (Pack of 12)
These are hands down my favorite protein shakes. I’ve tried quite a few different brands over the years, but I honestly don’t drink any other protein drinks now besides these. The chocolate flavor is absolutely delicious and tastes much better than most protein shakes I’ve had. They’re smooth, not chalky whatsoever like other protein drinks, and have a great balance of sweetness without tasting artificial. The high protein content is also a huge plus for post-workout recovery or a quick meal on busy days. I always keep these stocked in my fridge and restock every other week!
