Dracaena fragrans 'Lemon Lime'

Small, upright, tidy — like it “organises” the room 🍋

Family: Asparagaceae • Pot diameter: 12 cm • Height: ~15 cm

Asparagaceae Evergreen Light: indirect–medium Care: easy Upright • compact

Dracaena fragrans 'Lemon Lime' is one of the easiest ways to add brightness and clean, modern lines to your interior—even if your space isn’t consistently sunny. Its foliage features fresh lemon-and-lime striping that looks crisp without being loud, while the upright, tidy shape makes it perfect for small spots: a shelf, next to a desk, an entryway, or on furniture where you want a “column” of green without taking up room. It keeps a stable, polished look, pairs beautifully with neutral palettes, and instantly makes a space feel more alive and curated. With a sensible watering rhythm and mostly indirect light, it stays sturdy, leafy and vibrant—bringing colour that stands out in a calm, balanced way.

Light

🌤️ Indirect
Colours look crisp in brighter light.

Watering

💧 Moderate
Water once the top layer dries.

Rhythm

📈 Steady
Develops a cane form over time.

Vibe

🌬️ Air-friendly
A popular office/living-room choice.

What makes it special

  • 🍋 Lemon–lime striping that brightens without shouting.
  • 🧱 Upright, compact shape—great for smaller spaces.
  • 🧘 Reliable, steady presence for everyday home/office life.

Best uses

  • 🪴 In a small decorative pot on furniture or shelving.
  • 🏢 On a desk for clean green with a bright twist.
  • 🚪 In an entryway or hallway with good indirect light for instant uplift.

Where to place it

Place it in bright indirect light—where it “sees” the sky but isn’t hit by direct sun on the leaves. It also adapts to medium light, but brighter conditions keep the striping cleaner and growth more balanced. Ideal near a window with a sheer curtain, or in a bright spot a few metres back from the glass.

Plants it pairs well with

  • With plants that like the same light range (indirect/medium) for an easy, unified care routine.
  • With deep-green foliage, so the lemon–lime tones read as a bright contrast.
  • With other slender, upright forms to add height without visual bulk.

Design goal: clean lines + bright variegation for a modern, “tidy” green statement.

Taxonomic notes: Dracaena fragrans belongs to the Asparagaceae family (Nolinoideae) and is widely known as the “corn plant” thanks to its cane-like stem (cane). The species has produced many cultivars that differ in variegation and stripe width.

Native habitat & range: The species is linked to tropical regions of Africa, growing in warm climates and in positions with filtered light under taller vegetation.

Name & etymology: Dracaena is etymologically connected to “dragon”, while fragrans refers to the fragrance of the flowers (although flowering indoors is uncommon). The name 'Lemon Lime' describes the signature lemon-and-lime variegated foliage.

Selection, distribution & stability: Variegated forms are typically maintained through selection of stable variegation lines and propagated vegetatively (cane cuttings) to keep the same pattern and colour intensity in production.

1) Water with rhythm: Water when the top of the mix dries. Aim for consistency—never constant wet soil.
2) Light for colour: Keep it in good indirect light so the striping stays bright and crisp.
3) Keep it clean: Wipe leaves gently so the variegation shows and the foliage “breathes” better.

  • 🧬 Variegation economics: variegation means less chlorophyll in parts of the leaf, so light balance directly affects how “clean” the pattern looks.
  • 🌿 Cane growth: the cane is essentially a stem that can resprout from nodes, which is why dracaenas propagate so well from cane cuttings.
  • 🧪 Saponins: many Dracaena contain compounds (e.g., saponins) linked to pet toxicity when ingested.
  • 🌬️ Indoor favourite: its popularity is a mix of morphology (upright habit) and tolerance of variable indoor light.
What light does it need? light

It prefers bright indirect light but adapts to medium light. In better light, the lemon–lime striping looks cleaner.

How do I water it correctly? water

Water once the top layer of the mix has dried. Avoid letting water sit in a saucer or cachepot—constant wetness is the most common mistake.

Should I mist the leaves? care

Not necessary. Instead, gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth so the variegation stays crisp and dust-free.

Is it pet-safe? pets

No. It is considered toxic if ingested. Keep it away from children and pets.

Can't ask for more, but I want more.
Format: Hardcover
Really, this is just a start. Any commentary is. But this is one of the best because it proceeds from a radical premise: the whole Bible is from God, giving His point of view and superceding that of the human author. Not that this is promoted self-consciously or consistently from each contributor. But the structure of the enterprise is such that they are sucked back into presenting how it is that the old testament is so thoroughly imbued in NT writings, including in ways which both OT and NT writers could not have intended. Treading down this path forces us to question all those teachings we've had where we were told: "Matthew (or Paul or John ...) here had in mind xyz." When Matthew wrote his gospel, we might now surmise that we can't be sure what he himself had in mind, because what we wrote was superintended to the degree that Matthew's sinful thoughts were NOT what ended up on parchment. God's thoughts are there, pure and untainted by Matthew's natural limitations and sin. Attempts to work from Matthew's sinful thoughts and culture to God's meaning miss the point that whatever Matthew was in his head was NOT the end product that flowed out his quill. Remember when Caiaphas spoke what he thought naturally about how it is better for one man to die rather than the whole nation take a hit? He meant it for evil, but God superintended it to be ultimate truth, regardless of that speaker's intent. Same with all holy writings. Yes, holy men of old spake as they were moved, but their holiness does not naturally come out in uncontaminated speech -- that takes a special work of God. This commentary allows for that premise. There's something way more than human going on that ties this whole Bible together in one theme from one Writer. Don't get me wrong, not all these contributors seem to subscribe to my radical conclusions above, although I think the editors do. And their prescribed structure for this commentary nudge the contributors into a path that I think leads to a more theocentric authorship. So this is a good start, but nothing beats trying to read the Bible itself from God's point of view, rather than the hallowed and misguided grammatial-historical human focused approach.

This is an incredible resource that looks at New Testament passages in their relation to the Old Testament. The authors go well beyond mere cross referencing and provide in-depth exegetical commentary on the New Testament and the Old Testament contexts. The writers adeptly address specific and general references by the New Testament to the Old Testament. The authors of the chapters of the book are seasoned Biblical writers that incorporate the best from existing commentaries on their subjects in addition to offering their own profound insights. This is a rich resources that is simple, cogent, well written and easy to read. Each chapter has extensive bibliographies indicating the thoroughness of the research. This is a resource book to definitely add to your library for personal devotional use, a writing resource or a preaching resource. I am very pleased with it so far. Craig Stephans, author of

Sobering yet encouraging
Format: Kindle
As always David Jeremiah is clear and precisely on target. We already see what he's pointing at. He just makes sure that we don't miss what it means both in terms of the future and in terms of what we need to do in the present.
