Warm Blanket Read
Format: Paperback
Wow, I didnāt know how much I needed this and I inhaled it. I needed to feel a bit of summer. I needed a small town. What I didnāt know I needed was a big love story. This was perfect and escapist. A perfect read to make you feel good and characters to swoon over. Canāt wait for the show now.

Heartfelt and Nostalgic
Format: Paperback
What can I say to effectively capture the beauty, sweetness, and depth of this story?
Sam and Percyās story is sweet and nostalgic, and it made me feel like I was a teenager again right along with them. It brought back memories of my own teenage years spent camping at various lakes with family and friends; memories I hadnāt thought about in awhile.
Barryās Bay is a character in its own right as well, and I had such a vivid picture in my mind of what it must have looked like.
There were moments when I laughed out loud, and moments that made me cry. The exploration of guilt and what it does to a person and the ones they love was so emotional and real.
And the sweetness and love between Percy and Sam, despite all their mistakes and miscommunications, is something that will stick with me for a long time.
There is so much heart in this story. I love a good friends-to-lovers romance, and have read quite a few, but this is easily one of the best.

Cute little read
Format: Paperback
I thought this book was a good quick read!
Plot: 4āļø I wonāt spoil it but there is a trope I wasnāt fond of in this toward the end of the book, BUT itās a very realistic response to the situation. (I am not making it okay in ANY means). I do wish there would have been a little more fun memories between them as friends.
Characters: I think Carly did a great job keeping the characters realistic. Yes the FMC parents had some money but it was a refresher that nobody was spoiled and the MMC earned his way into medical school.

John Candy References!

Persephone is thirty years old and she just got dumped. She didnāt really care, he didnāt mean much to her and she never really let him in, even after seven months. She gets a phone call that has her racing back to her past, the small town of Barryās Bay, and back into the life of the one who got awayā¦ Sam Florek.
For six summers Percy and Sam were inseparable. The friendship naturally blossomed and grew into something more and he became the man she never wanted to live without, until it fell apart in a splash.
Percy returns for Samās mothers funeral and all the feelings come rushing back, their connection burning as brightly as it had twelve years ago. But Percy has a secret, a reason for why she broke up with him, and until she tells him, they can never be together.
Told in dual timelines, we unravel the mystery of the once in a lifetime love story between two people who were as fated as a couple could be.
First and foremost, there are not one but TWO John Candy references in this book. He is a late Canadian actor who was popular in the 80s. Most will know him as the Polka Player from home alone but I know him from so much more. Trust me, he deserves this paragraph of recognition and I praise the author for including him as he is slowly being forgotten.
Now onto the story.
I loved it. No ifs ands or buts about it. I absolutely love this story. It is a dual timeline, second chance romance and I think it got me out of my reading slump. I finished it in less than 2 days and couldnāt put it down.
The history of the characters, watching them slowly fall in love and come to terms with their feelings. Seeing how they struggle over the long distances and other romances that pop up. It was so well written and it felt like I was watching two people I knew in real life fall for each other. It was so realistic , even the lows had me tearing up but remaining hopeful.
The twist, the reason why they broke up, was predictable. I saw it coming not long into the book but it didnāt take away from the heartache I felt when it was revealed.
I enjoyed that we also got to explore relationships outside of the main love interest. We got to know Percyās friends and how they interacted with Sam too which was a nice break from the romance and gave depth outside of the love interest.
Great book and Iām so thankful it got recommended to me.

Charming and Summery, But Longer Than It Should Be

I listened to Every Summer After on audio, and at first, it really felt like it had the potential to be a solid 4-star read for me. The beginning is charming, easy to sink into, and definitely has that cozy, nostalgic summer atmosphere that so many readers love. Itās a cute, pleasant story with a smooth flow, and the type of book you can listen to without needing to focus too deeply.
However, as the story went on, the pacing became a real issue. At around ten hours, this audiobook felt unnecessarily long. The plot didnāt have enough depth or twists to justify that length, and I honestly think it would have been a much stronger book if it wrapped up closer to the seven-hour mark. Around the midpoint, I found myself losing interest at times simply because the narrative stretched itself thin.
When it comes to the writing itself, Carley Fortune keeps things very simple. Thereās nothing particularly inspiring, profound, or memorable about the prose. Itās straightforward and easy to follow, but it doesnāt stand out, and I wouldnāt say itās developed enough to be considered a distinct āwriting style.ā It does the job, but it never elevates the story or adds emotional depth the way some authors can.
I also didnāt fall deeply in love with the characters. They were fine, but not the type that stay with you after the book is over. Because the character connection never fully clicked for me, the slower pacing felt even more noticeable, and some of the emotional beats didnāt land as strongly as they were intended to.
Overall, Every Summer After is an easy, pleasant listen ā perfect if youāre looking for something light, summery, and uncomplicated. While the overly long runtime, very simple writing, and limited emotional connection kept it at 3.5 stars for me, itās still a sweet story that delivers exactly what many readers look for in a nostalgic summer romance. Iām still open to exploring more of Carley Fortuneās books, and Iām curious to see how her other stories compare!
