Wow, what a rare find! Stunning, antique, dresser and mirror salvaged from Central Connecticut. Except for the drawer linings and slats on the back of the dresser, which are made of old Douglas Fir, the dresser and mirror frame are solid, riftsawn oak. The 3 drawers are equipped with brass pulls, wooden keyhole covers, and working locks-we even have the original key! The beveled glass mirror and the finish of the wood is also original--the piece has never been painted!

This is not your father's dresser, nor your grandfather's dresser, this is your great grandfather's! It was built sometime during the late 1800's. Besides the information that I got from the elderly gentleman who sold it to me, I could tell more about it's age by looking it's construction. Not only is the design, carvings, and appliques reflective of the Victorian era, but even the wood itself is very old. The grain of the oak is super tight, meaning that the wood was cut from old-growth oak trees. The wear and uneven finish shows varying degrees of exposure to sunlight and use over a long period of time, not a few decades. The stamped pulls themselves are antique and are secured with nuts rather than setscrews like modern hardware. The hand-carved, wooden keyholes, and the off-center positioning of the locks show they were installed by humans rather than machines. Nails with square heads are used throughout the piece. The drawers are held together by Knapp joints (pin and cove or half-moon joints), which were primarily used 1870 - 1900. The multiple boards used for the backing of both the dresser and mirror instead of a single sheet of plywood are just a few more obvious signs that this is a turn-of-the-century piece.

The mirror secures to the back of the dresser with 2 slats, and the mirror itself swivels back and forth. The bottom drawers have wooden keyhole covers, but the one for the top drawer is missing.

Considering that the piece is well over 100 years, it is in excellent condition. The dresser has the typical nicks, scrapes, scratches, and spots of worn finish here and there that you would expect to find on a piece this old. However, there are no breaks, rot, warp, or any other serious flaws.

Our carpenter thoroughly inspected the piece and didn't need to make any repairs. He did reinforce the bottoms of the drawers and the top with glue and finish nails, but he didn't need to glue or reinforce any other part of the dresser.

The glass is completely intact and is in great shape with only subtle scratches here and there. The silvering has a few worn spots, but that just adds to the distressed charm of the mirror.

The chest is strong and sturdy and is ready for another lifetime of service!

Student Review
This book is an excellent introduction to the basic principles of insurance. We used this text as a supplement in our Intro to Act. Sci. class. It is very readable, easy to understand. Minimal mathematics required, some basic calculus concepts used, but only briefly. Don't let it's small size fool ya, it has plenty of information in there.

Good for lawyers and non lawyers alike
Format: Kindle
I recently read "The Tools of Argument: How the Best Lawyers Think, Argue, and Win" by Joel P. Trachtman and found it to be a valuable resource for improving argumentative skills. Whether you're a law student, practicing attorney, or interested in the art of persuasion, this book offers clear and practical insights. **Comprehensive and Accessible** Trachtman effectively breaks down complex legal concepts into understandable sections. The book progresses logically from basic to advanced techniques, using practical examples that make the content engaging and relevant. **Logical Structure** The book is well-organized into four main sections: the nature of argument, the structure of argument, the techniques of argument, and the application of argument. This structure aids comprehension and allows readers to build their skills progressively. **Practical Insights** The focus on practical application sets this book apart. Trachtman provides actionable advice with checklists, summaries, and exercises at the end of each chapter to reinforce learning and ensure readers can apply the techniques. **Engaging Style** Trachtman's writing is clear and approachable, avoiding overly technical jargon. His use of humor and personal anecdotes makes the content more relatable and easier to understand. **Versatile Application** While tailored for the legal field, the book's lessons extend to various professions and everyday situations. The principles of constructing and deconstructing arguments are valuable in many contexts, from business negotiations to everyday debates. **Conclusion** "The Tools of Argument" is a practical guide for anyone looking to enhance their argumentation skills. Trachtman's clear explanations and practical advice make this book a useful addition to any library. I recommend it for lawyers, students, and anyone interested in effective argumentation.

The best book for any person who wants to understand how ...
Format: Paperback
The best book for any person who wants to understand how American Courts work! At times we all ask questions like "How can this criminal get off on technicalities if it is obvious that he/she committed crime?", or "How can this be fair?" or "How can a lawyer defend this "bad guy/girl"? This is totally wrong! He/she is a criminal!" The author explains the difference between law and common sense, law and ethics, understanding of crime in legal terms and in laymen words. The book closely examines the logical reasoning of the law professionals , demonstrating the "tricks" used in court rooms. Fascinating reading!!! WARNING: the book will not prepare you to go to court and defend your case! This is not a "how-to" manual for folks who are planning to go to court. Hire a lawyer if need be. However, if you want to learn how to present and defend your point (any point, not just legal issues) as an intelligent and convincing person, this book is for you! Chances are, by the time you are done with debating your next case, your opponents will at least respect your opinion (or hate your guts, which still might give you some satisfaction). This book is for anyone who wants to boost up their skills in logical persuasion, finding loopholes in opponent's logical reasoning. Lots of interesting and valuable information for a pretty small price! It is written in a short and clear format: each chapter discusses specific idea, giving examples from court cases and average daily life (parent-child, husband-wife, employee-supervisor), concluding with a practical application summary argument vs. counterargument. So, no reason to read the entire book from beginning to end. One can just pick any chapter and read about how this or that legal (logical) rule can be applied in daily life.
